Politecnico di Torino offers excellence in technology and acknowledges its historical context. It promotes the ability to carry out theoretical or applied research, and also the capacity to achieve concrete and reliable productive processes or organise services and facilities. Politecnico has almost 25,000 students studying on 108 courses (forty 3-year degree courses; about thirty 5-year degrees; thirty-one degrees at post-graduate level - doctorates and other post-graduate specialisations). There are 7 Schools, 18 Departments and 7 Interdepartmental Centres.
DAUIN “Dipartimento di Automatica e Informatica” (Department of Control and Computer Engineering) organizes research and teaching activities for everything concerning three specific scientific areas. In Control Engineering, the Department focuses on the development of methodologies, algorithms and software for modelling, simulation, control and automation of complex apparatus and systems, plus their applications in many different areas. Within Computer Engineering, the Department works on the study, design and testing of computer components, devices and systems including both hardware and software, as well as their applications in various fields and their integration into complex systems.
Finally, within Operations Research the DAUIN concentrates on the construction of methods and instruments for the analysis and solution of complex optimisation and decisional problems in the ICT, telematics and automation fields. The theoretical and applied research carried out at the DAUIN, has a significant impact on industrial and social systems at regional, national and international levels. DAUIN is committed to the development of teaching at all levels of university education, and to the continuing education of research and teaching staff.
